  • There used to be a large problem with using chemicals in and around Bat Roosts for removing Pests, however with caution there are now much safer ways to remove any infestation.

  • Sticky Traps should NEVER be used in a bat roost.

  • Rodent poison should not be left open below roosts.

  • To ensure work is within the law, and for up to date advice, always consult the relevant SNCO, in England, this is Natural England.

  • Insecticides have now been developed that are safer for use around mammals, consult Natural England for recommendations on which to use.

  • Fungicide use should also be consulted.

  • AMPA Associates, in conjunction with the NPTA, are now offering Bat Awareness courses to enable best practice during pest control work.

  • This provides certification that those completing the course successfully are aware of the legal and practical issues raised by bats in their work.
